Sakura in Nihonbashi Japan Life

Last March 26, 2022 was the best day to bring good luck of the year to start a business, invest, get married, or anything else. I will show you how Japanese people spend such a good lucky day.

What kind of day was it in the first place?

There are many days in Japan that are considered auspicious, and the following three lucky days coincided with the same day.

  • 一粒万倍日, ichi-ryuu-man-bai-bi (the day when one grain is multiplied by ten thousand)
  • 天赦日, ten-sha-nichi (the day when Kami forgives all sins)
  • 寅の日, Tora-no-hi (tiger day)

Each lucky day is explained below.

一粒万倍日, ichi-ryuu-man-bai-bi (the day when one grain is multiplied by ten thousand)

The origin

"ichi-ryuu-man-bai-bi" of kanji characters and the reading and meaning of each character.
Kanji characters and their respective meanings on 一粒万倍日, ichi-ryuu-man-bai-bi.

一粒万倍日, ichi-ryuu-man-bai-bi means “one grain of chaff will bear ten thousand times as much rice and become a fine ear of rice”. Therefore, this day is considered a good day to start anything. It is a good day for those who want to increase their money, develop their company or business, or have a happy marriage for a long time.

Number of good lucky days in a year

一粒万倍日, ichi-ryuu-man-bai-bi is determined by the cycle of the 24 solar terms and the 12 signs of the oriental zodiac. 2 of the 12 zodiac signs fall on these days, which means that they occur approximately once every 6 days, making 5 days a month or 60 days a year.

Two zodiac signs are chosen as auspicious days for each of the 24 periods of the solar terms, and since two are chosen from among the 12 zodiac signs, two days in 12 days, or once every six days, are auspicious days. Therefore, there are five days in a month, or more than 60 days in a year, when a day is 一粒万倍日, ichi-ryuu-man-bai-bi.
